RECEPTIVE STRUCTURE. Santa Illuminata, an Abbey of rare beauty with a history dating back to the 11th century AD, stands in a beautiful area enveloped in an almost magical atmosphere on one of the most beautiful hills facing Todi and Massa Martana, characterised by the unmistakable appearance of the Umbrian landscape and surrounded by an estate of about 37 hectares. The Complex of Santa Illuminata develops around a rectangular courtyard whose northwest side is occupied by the consecrated Church. Clad externally and internally in antique exposed stone and recently restored under the guidance of the Department of Environmental, Architectural, Artistic and Historical Heritage of Umbria. The interior has been designed in a style that has blended old and modern beautifully together, combining high quality décor with contemporary furnishings, with chestnut-wood beams for the ceilings, high quality terracotta floors and air conditioning in all the rooms. In the garden are numerous plants, tall trees and typical flowers of the area. The private pool is in a very panoramic position facing towards Collevalenza. The tranquillity of the place, interrupted only by the noises of the countryside, and its colours depicted by the alternation of day and night and by the changing of the seasons: all this will fill your stay with unforgettable emotions. Santa Illuminata offers the possibility of organizing events and receptions in its spacious halls and outdoor areas. The internal courtyard, framed by the Church and the Abbey, offers a space of rare charm, ideal for outdoor receptions. It is also perfect for family reunions with children and groups of friends who want to spend their holidays together but, at the same time, safeguard their privacy. The Abbey, located a few kilometres from Todi and Massa Martana, has the advantage of being in the heart of an area of culture, art and food and wine tourism. It is the perfect departure point for excursions to Orvieto, Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, the nearby Santuario dell'Amore Misericordioso (Shrine of Merciful Love) in Collevalenza and also to Florence and Rome, thanks to its proximity to the E45 highway linking Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. Services and shops for basic needs, open on Sundays, can be found in Todi and Ponte Rio just 10 minutes' drive away. Please Note: when the property is rented in this solution no other guests will be present on site. The villa borders on the house of the owners who are very kind and discreet and available for any needs of the guests while respecting their privacy and their exclusive areas.

SANTA ILLUMINATA HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO A CHECK-UP BY A TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY OF THE DESCRIPTION, ACCESSORIES LISTED ON THIS PAGE AND THEIR PRESENT STATE OF OPERATION/MAINTENANCE, TO GUARANTEE QUALITY, CLEANLINESS AND COMFORTS TO ALL CLIENTS WHO WILL STAY HERE.

Interior:

The house has two floors connected internally by a lift and externally by a staircase. The main entrance leads, on the right, to the large dining room, to a second entrance, to a characteristic sitting room with large windows facing out to the courtyard and to a guest bathroom. In front of the main entrance, up 8 steps, is a second dining room with French windows giving direct access to the outdoor area set up as a dining area. The floor is completed by the kitchen with brick-built barbecue. Down 4 steps from the main entrance is a large basement room with fireplace and two guest bathrooms. Inside the courtyard is the external staircase that leads up to the first floor (also reached via the lift) with the sleeping area; in the left wing you come to a double bedroom with large sitting room (this is the oldest room of the Abbey) and ensuite bathroom with tub and shower. The wing in front of the entrance consists of three double bedrooms (one with divisible beds), each with sitting room with double sofa bed, and a wooden staircase leading up to the bedrooms on the next floor, each with ensuite bathroom with shower. In the right wing are three double bedrooms (one with divisible bed), each with ensuite bathroom with shower. One of the rooms has access to the Tower of the Abbey which consists of a small sitting room which leads up to an intermediate floor with a bathroom with shower and then on up to a double bedroom. On a raised floor, with independent access from outside only, is a double bedroom with open-plan living room with double sofa bed and ensuite bathroom with shower. The whole structure has air-conditioning. ANNEX. Within the Santa Illuminata estate that surrounds the Church and the Abbey, about 50 m away, is the annex, an old restored farmhouse. An attractive portico leads to the main entrance of this one-storey house composed of a sitting room with double sofa bed, a kitchenette, a double bedroom (with divisible bed), a twin bedroom and two bathrooms (one with shower and one with half bath). The whole structure has air-conditioning.

Park:

The estate in which the house lies extends for about 37 hectares, partly covered by an olive grove and a large wooded area, with about 1 hectare of lawn around the house. There is a dining area, equipped with tables, chairs and barbecue, right in front of the entrance to the dining room and another dining area in the beautiful courtyard where guests can gather and chat in absolute tranquillity while sipping a good glass of wine. The vegetation in the park is varied and very well maintained; numerous species of plants and flowers enliven the surroundings with typical shrubs in the wooded area and olive grove and herbs and colourful flowers. An open-air parking area in front of the Abbey has space for ten cars. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

The beautiful swimming pool lies about 50 m from the Abbey in a breathtaking panoramic position facing towards Collevalenza. With an irregular shape, it has an area of 82 sq m and a constant depth of 1.40 m. Lined in PVC, it has chlorine purification, internal lights and four large steps for access to the water. The surrounding area is paved and equipped with sunbeds, deckchairs, gazebo and umbrellas. There is also a cold-water shower and a changing room with bathroom and shower. The pool is open from the last Saturday of April to the first Saturday of October.

The Abbey is located in the locality of Santa Illuminata, Massa Martana, in the heart of the most typical Umbrian landscape, 15 minutes from Todi and 45 minutes from Perugia. Thanks to its geographical location, you can visit many of the most sought-after places in Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio thanks to the E45 highway. The train station, for local trains, is about 10 minutes away in Ponte Rio while Orvieto with its mainline station and the A1, Autostrada del Sole, motorway exit is about 50 minutes away. Another A1 motorway exit is in Orte, about 45 minutes from Todi. Assisi, Spoleto and the Marmore Waterfalls are less than an hour away while the nearby Santuario dell'Amore Misericordioso (Shrine of Merciful Love) is just a few minutes away. Florence or Rome can be reached in about two hours, by car or train.

The service with Marco is exceptionnal and the owner who live aside the proerty is very kind. It feels he's not there because he's really quiet and stay most of the time in is home.

Very good, especially for a big group. We're already thinking of coming back next year. We loved it. The price/quality is very good. Obviously the furniture/ interior is not on the level of a five star hotel, but then it would also cost much more. For large groups as we were an additional fridge would have been helpful.

SHORT STAYS and NON-WEEKLY STAYS:
For some periods it is possible to make shorter stays STARTING FROM 5 NIGHTS (periods highlighted in grey on the calendar). For some properties it is possible to book online, for other properties it is possible to send a booking request, which will be subject to acceptance by Emma Villas. One of our booking operators will answer the clients within 24 hours.

WEEKLY RENTALS NON SAT - SAT STAYS:
Exclusively for the periods marked in grey on the calendar, it will be possible to book different periods, rather than the regular Saturday - Saturday (for instance: check-in Wednesday - Check-out Wednesday). Also in this case, for some properties it is possible to book online, for other properties it is possible to send a booking request, which will be subject to acceptance by Emma Villas within 24 hours.
