RICEPTIVE STRUCTURE (CIR CODE: 051017AAT0099). Nonno Fernando is a farmhouse built entirely in stone whose origins date roughly back to the beginning of the 19th century. In the recent renovation the present owners have preserved the original layout of the various rooms. Salvage materials have been used for the roofs and floors, covered with Tuscan terracotta; the exposed ceiling beams in chestnut wood have been kept. The house is situated in the luxuriant Tuscan countryside, just a few minutes from the attractive medieval town of Cortona, clinging to the steep hillside overlooking the Val di Chiana and Lake Trasimeno. Its convenient position, well connected to major roads and well served by the railways, makes it easy to organize excursions to the numerous villages in the vicinity and to visit the main towns of Umbria and Tuscany. All this, enriched by the numerous, high quality wine and food proposals of Tuscan culinary tradition, with the unmistakable simple but intense flavours of the typical dishes.

NONNO FERNANDO HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO A CHECK-UP BY A TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY OF THE DESCRIPTION, ACCESSORIES LISTED ON THIS PAGE AND THEIR PRESENT STATE OF OPERATION/MAINTENANCE, TO GUARANTEE QUALITY, CLEANLINESS AND COMFORTS TO ALL CLIENTS WHO WILL STAY HERE.

Interior:

The house has two floors and includes the main house with the communal areas and five annexes, two are on the ground floor and three are on the first floor. The main entrance leads into the central structure with a large living room, dining room with fireplace and fully equipped kitchen, all connected by archways, and a toilet. From the ground floor, two staircases situated, respectively, to the left and right of the main entrance lead up to the first two annexes on the first floor. ANNEX 1. It is composed by two comunicating apartments. One with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom (with joinable beds) both with en-suite bathrooms with shower. The other apartment is composed by one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. ANNEX 2. It is on the same level and opposite the entrance to the first annex and is composed of a twin bedroom (with joinable beds) and a double bedroom, both with ensuite bathroom with shower. A spiral staircase leads up to the loft with a single bed (on request is available an extra pull-out bed) and bathroom with shower. ANNEX 3. The other staircase leads to the third annex composed of a study with single bed and pull-out bed, a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower. The last two annexes are reached from the back of the house, one on the left and one on the right of the central structure. ANNEX 4. Is composed of a double bedroom and a twin bedroom (with joinable beds and direct outside access as well), both with ensuite bathroom with shower. ANNEX 5. The last annex is composed of a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower. Each single annex has a small sitting room and kitchenette. The laundry room is located in an annex adjacent to the house.

Park:

The park around the house extends for a total of 18 hectares. Beds with colourful flowers and lavender bushes adorn the garden with its well-kept lawn of about 2500 square metres. Beside the pool a rose garden of yellow roses frames the solarium area. The estate contains typical Tuscan trees such as olives and elms as well as a vast orchard of walnuts, figs and pomegranates at the disposal of guests. The large, well-kept areas induce guests to spend time outdoors, taking their meals under the large gazebo outside the kitchen, where a brickwork barbecue is situated, or else playing ping pong in the shade of a gazebo or kicking a ball about. They can also relax under one of the gazebos placed in various points of the garden and simply admire the wonderful view of the hill of Cortona before them. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

The swimming pool area is fenced in by a wire net. It is about 70 metres from the house and is situated on the same level. The pool is rectangular in shape and measures 12 x 6 m with a depth varying from 1.20 m to 1.50 m and has an outdoor cold-water shower. Roman steps composed of 4 large steps lead into the water. The pool is lined with PVC and has chlorine purification and underwater lighting. The border and area around the pool is paved with Tuscan terracotta for 1.5 m whilst the solarium area, provided with sunbeds, chairs, armchairs and umbrellas, occupies the surrounding, well-kept lawn. There are two gazebos in the pool area, close to each other, furnished with armchairs and coffee tables, ideal for relaxing, on one’s own or in company, with a good glass of wine. In front of the pool, under a gazebo, is present a nice Jacuzzi 4 seats. The pool is open from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October.

Location and distances


The Location is an ideal starting point for who wish to have nice daily trip and sightseeing all over South Tuscany and Umbria as well: being the city of Cortona located not far either from the motorway A1 ( exit Valdichiana) and from the freeway Siena-Perugia. Very well known sites like Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Perugia, Assisi and so on can be reached in less than hour driving as well as the hidden and maybe most beautiful corners of this 2 regions. Big cities like Florence or Rome can be easily reached also by train ( and we suggest to use it in high season to avoid traffic roads) being Cortona served by 2 train railways stations. A bus stop is only 100 m far from the property. Above all we are quite sure that you will fall in love with the ancient atmosphere of this beautiful town. All shops and facilities in the big village of Camucia, nice restaurants, bars, cafes, shops in Cortona. Supermarket are open also on Sunday morning.

The family Fernando is super. All of them. We ate one night the dinner of nonna Sylvana that was delicious and in every way a night not to forget because of their care and hospitality a nice surprise for the childeren at the end.

Beautiful estate, super sweet, friendly people and top service. Nice rooms, spacious common area, lovely garden. Nice that there was a shady spot by the pool and a fence around the pool. The house is more beautiful than in the pictures. Dinner cooked for us by the owner was superb and the surprise for the kids finished it off.

Great place for a large groupe with the 5 -6 appartements and a main sitting-and dinning room with a large kitchen where all can be together. Just outside the kitchen there is a great place for eating outdoors plus a grill. here is also a playground and succer field. And the view of Cortona is fabulous. The tabletennis, tablesuccer, succerfield/playground and the swimmingpool was a hit. The family living next door was a great help, particularly Carlos and Mrs ?

The property accommodated our group of 16 adults wonderfully. Plenty of room for group dinners. Spacious grounds for finding a quiet place to read and relax. The villa hosts, Giovanni, Alessandra, Paola and Carlo were most hospitable and friendly. They made everyone feel at home and welcome. The location of the villa is perfect to explore the beautiful towns of Tuscany and Umbria. Everyone in the group felt the week was the most excellent vacation spent in a villa.

This property was in a great location near Cortona. The outside areas were wonderful for 12 boys to run around, play soccer and swim. We had 22 people and the property accommodated everyone comfortably. The hosts were available at all times and responded to any query

Excellent property with strong rural flavour - absolutely clean and well equipped with most utensils. The pool was the outstanding factor to myself.

Possible a ceiling-based fan in the rooms to assist the air circulation (incorporated with the lights?) Cups with bigger handles (existing cups very pretty, but unpractical if used with hot tea!!

The Nonno Fernando villa was so clean and well kept, it appears to be newly renovated, nice furnishings, lighting, and all necessary appliances for cooking, preparing and serving meals. We shared many wonderful memories with our family and would return to Nonno Fernando if given the opportunity.
