Tenuta Sagherina is set in the formidable scenery of the hilly Cortona countryside, less than ten minutes from one of the most beautiful and fascinating towns in Tuscany, surrounded by the brilliant nature of the Val d'Esse, an area east of Cortona full of churches, archaeological sites and Renaissance villas, stretching along the river of the same name that extends as far as Umbria. Its structure has preserved intact the charm of typical Tuscan rural houses, built as a farm at the end of the 19th century, with the original terracotta-vaulted ceilings with cork beams and other classical architectural elements, such as the large fireplace in the living room. The renovation has equipped the interior with cosy bedrooms, renovated bathrooms and a spacious living area with a rustic kitchen. Surrounded by the silvery foliage of a sea of olive trees, the fully-equipped garden with living areas for relaxing outdoors, and the panoramic swimming pool with a wonderful view over the peaceful green surrounding countryside, guarantee unforgettable moments of peace and relaxation in an intimate and secluded atmosphere. From the property, nearby shopping centres and main road links are within easy reach, and you can undertake numerous itineraries in the pursuit of culture, typical gastronomy and art towards the major cities of Tuscany, such as Siena, Florence and Arezzo, but also of nearby Umbria, such as Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto. Short trips will take you to the famous rural borghi around Siena, such as San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino in the Val d’Orcia and to the magnificent area of Chianti.

TENUTA SAGHERINA HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO A CHECK-UP BY A TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY OF THE DESCRIPTION, ACCESSORIES LISTED ON THIS PAGE AND THEIR PRESENT STATE OF OPERATION/MAINTENANCE, TO GUARANTEE QUALITY, CLEANLINESS AND COMFORTS TO ALL CLIENTS WHO WILL STAY HERE.

Interior:

The house has two floors. Crossing the veranda, where the ping pong table is located, you come to the main door and from here to the living room consisting of a large sitting area with fireplace and a dining area. The living room is connected to the kitchen (with adjoining pantry and laundry room) and to a guest bathroom. Going up to the first floor you come to a study and the sleeping area, consisting of a twin bedroom (with joinable beds) and three double bedrooms with ensuite bathroom with shower. One of the double bedrooms has a divisible bed.

Park:

In the property, consisting of about 2 hectares of park, and bordered by a large expanse of olive trees along the side of the main door and then along the entire perimeter of the garden, lawn areas and stone surfaces alternate, dotted with fruit trees and flowers. In front of the French windows leading into the house is a large pergola covered with climbing wisteria and set up as a dining area; next to it is an annex with a large stone barbecue. In a panoramic area of the park is a lounge corner perfect for admiring the sunset on the hills around Cortona. Next to the entrances to the house is a parking area. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

Open from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October, the rectangular swimming pool is set in a splendid panoramic position at the back of the house, which is about 30 m away, and can be reached down a short path. Measuring 8 x 4 m with the depth varying from 1.20 to 2.20 m, the pool is lined in clear PVC with a stone border, and has salt-based purification, an internal spotlight and a ladder for access to the water. In the surrounding sunbathing area are sunbeds and an umbrella.

Location and distances


The location is an ideal starting point for who wish to have nice daily trip and sightseeing all over South Tuscany and Umbria as well: being the city of Cortona located not far either from the motorway A1 (exit Valdichiana) and from the freeway Siena-Perugia. Very well known sites like Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Perugia, Assisi and so on can be reached in less than hour driving as well as the hidden and maybe most beautiful corners of this 2 regions. Big cities like Florence or Rome can be easily reached also by train (and we suggest to use it in high season to avoid traffic roads) being Cortona served by 2 train railways stations. Above all we are quite sure that you will fall in love with the ancient atmosphere of this beautiful town. All shops and facilities in the big village of Camucia, nice restaurants, bars, cafes, shops in Cortona. Supermarket are open also on Sunday morning.

The property and the grounds are outstanding. Our only suggestion would be improvement to the road leading up to the entrance gates, which we assume have been damaged by recent heavy rainfall.

From booking to welcome check in at the property everything was perfect. In particular the pre arrival contact from Paola on day before travel was both reassuring and invaluable given that our arrival time was in hands of airlines. Paola also very helpful when our onward travel became difficult.

It it beautifully decorated, full of nice decor details in rooms and bathrooms, well equipped and truly comfortable. The outdoor spaces are magical. Excellent in every aspect. All the process went smooth, and the people of Emma Villas where very receptive always answering immediately every question and request. In the villa, the reception was great. I have no words to describe how nice and receptive Paola and Laura (the owner) were. They gave us excellent recommendations and helped us immediately with everything we asked for.
