RECEPTIVE STRUCTURE. An eighteenth century structure only a few kilometers away from Lake Trasimeno with the Etruscan town of Cortona behind it, Villa delle Sophore stands on what was once the border between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Papal States and a smuggling area. The conservative renovation has not prevented the house from being made warm and hospitable, extremely comfortable and liveable. The frescoes, painted vaults, majestic entrance hall and, in particular, the decor enfold the visitor in an unreal, timeless atmosphere. Every room has been meticulously decorated, exclusively with antique furniture, the result of a patient and targeted research on the part of the owners without, however, renouncing all modern comforts: LCD television sets, stereo, internet and fully equipped gym. The guests Villa delle Sophore can count on the availability of the owners who live in a outbuilding of the villa with an independent entrance. The strategic position of the villa allows guests to organize pleasant excursions to Lake Trasimeno or to reach the nearby historical centres of Cortona, Montepulciano, Pienza, Chiusi, just a few kilometres away, as well as the famous art cities of Siena, Florence, Perugia and Roma. In the underground cellars of the villa, the owner, a very keen on collection person, exposes a private collection with more than thousands of antique pieces. The furniture and the objects exposed have been wisely positioned in order to create a sort of antique itinerary. A great destination for all those who love professionally restored furniture, and also a beautiful goal for all those experts who will definitely enjoy the show. NO SMOKERS HOUSE.

VILLA DELLE SOPHORE HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO A CHECK-UP BY A TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY OF THE DESCRIPTION, ACCESSORIES LISTED ON THIS PAGE AND THEIR PRESENT STATE OF OPERATION/MAINTENANCE, TO GUARANTEE QUALITY, CLEANLINESS AND COMFORTS TO ALL CLIENTS WHO WILL STAY HERE.

Interior:

The villa consists of two floors plus a loft. The main entrance door is on the ground floor. This floor is divided into a living area composed of sitting room, dining room with large fireplace and fully equipped kitchen (another fully equipped kitchen is located in the veranda very close to the swimmingpool) and into a sleeping area composed of two double bedrooms and two bathrooms, one with tub and one with shower. A spectacular, square based, spiral staircase leads up to the first floor composed of two double bedrooms with en suite bathroom with shower (one with hydromassage shower), a bathroom with tub and double bed, two double bedrooms and two bathrooms with shower (one with hydromassage shower). The first floor also has two single bedrooms one of wich with intermediate floor where is a reading room and a games room. In the mezanine there is also a fully equipped gym and a sitting area. In four of the double rooms it is possible to add a single bed. The firepalces in the reading room and in one of the bedrooms are ornimental. WE KINDLY ASK CLIENTS TO NOT SMOKE INSIDE THE VILLA.

Park:

The exterior of the villa is well maintained and pleasant, the pool is set in the centre of a garden-park characterized by the lake climate, always mild and breezy, and by plants of rare beauty. The pair of "sophore japaniche pendule giganti", from which the villa takes its name, represent the highest that the territory and vegetation can offer. All around are oak woods, every kind of local flora and fauna, in respect of the nineteenth century tradition that liked to mix English and Italian styles. The park is completed by a splendid period lemon-house (with loundry inside), a solarium, an antique gazebo and the splendid fountain of the same period. Near the pool there is also a big open veranda that puts at the guests' disposal a fully equipped kitchen and a large table with chairs, ideal for leisurely outdoor dining. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

The pool is open from the last Saturday of April to the first Saturday of October. It is only a few metres from the house, in a slightly lower position and is easily reached from the garden down a slight slope. Privacy is guaranteed by a laurel hedge which separates the solarium area from the rest of the park. The pool is rectangular and is provided with a Roman staircase to enter the water and a cold water shower. It measures 11 m x 7 m with a constant depth of 1.25 m. It is lined with PVC and the border and solarium area are in cotto tiles. It is provided with sun beds and umbrellas and is surrounded by old trees providing areas of shade. Near the pool there is also a big open veranda that puts at the guests' disposal a fully equipped kitchen and a large table with chairs, ideal for leisurely outdoor dining.

Location and distances


The Location is an ideal starting point for who wish to have nice daily trip and sightseeing all over South Tuscany and Umbria as well: being the city of Cortona located not far either from the motorway A1 ( exit Valdichiana) and from the freeway Siena-Perugia. Very well known sites like Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Perugia, Assisi and so on can be reached in less than hour driving as well as the hidden and maybe most beautiful corners of this 2 regions. Big cities like Florence or Rome can be easily reached also by train ( and we suggest to use it in high season to avoid traffic roads) being Cortona served by 2 train railways stations. Above all we are quite sure that you will fall in love with the ancient atmosphere of this beautiful town. All shops and facilities in the big village of Camucia, nice restaurants, bars, cafes, shops in Cortona. Supermarket are open also on Sunday morning.

The property was wonderful. It is an older villa so there are of course things that could be updated like the showers or kitchens, but overall it was wonderful. Some of the beds could use new mattresses too.

The park was very beautiful and the rare sophore trees wonderful. The furnishings and tastefully done decoration of the house and rooms was a delight! It felt good to be in a house that oozes history. I would certainly go again!

We had a big party and the food would have needed the possibility of using both ovens at once. The electrical system did not allow this, and it is something that could be bettered. It would also be nice to have the piano tuned, and to have the hifi-system also in the house - now it is located in a separate structure, the "Limonaia".

The villa was lovely as were the grounds. Everyone in our group was impressed with the interior decor and especially some of the magnificent antique furniture. The bedrooms were very spacious and accommodating. We appreciated the privacy with the surrounding trees and hedges. We especially enjoyed the outdoor patio by the pool. We had an in house chef prepare a meal for our group the night of our arrival. We were served the delicious meal al fresco in that area which very easily accommodate

WEEKLY RENTALS:
The standard typology is the one that foresees the regular Saturday- Saturday stay. In this case it is possible to send a request or to directly book online.

SHORT STAYS and NON-WEEKLY STAYS:
For some periods it is possible to make shorter stays STARTING FROM 5 NIGHTS (periods highlighted in grey on the calendar). For some properties it is possible to book online, for other properties it is possible to send a booking request, which will be subject to acceptance by Emma Villas. One of our booking operators will answer the clients within 24 hours.

WEEKLY RENTALS NON SAT - SAT STAYS:
Exclusively for the periods marked in grey on the calendar, it will be possible to book different periods, rather than the regular Saturday - Saturday (for instance: check-in Wednesday - Check-out Wednesday). Also in this case, for some properties it is possible to book online, for other properties it is possible to send a booking request, which will be subject to acceptance by Emma Villas within 24 hours.

The booking requests for one week stay during July and August are subject to approval.

The price does not include:

  • electricity (€ 300,00 per week in low season - € 400,00 per week in medium and in high season. N.B. These costs, not included in the price list, will be calculated at the reservation time and due at the balance payment.
  • Mandatory extra cleaning in case of animals (€ 30,00/week/animal)
  • Tourism tax (€ 2,50 per person per day for the first 4 days. Please note that children under 12 years old will not pay).

STAY CANCELLATION INSURANCE POLICY - by EuropAssistance (Included in the price)
The final price of the reservation includes the Insurance Policy for Cancellation of Stay. You can cancel and be reimbursed in the event of:
  • objectively and unambiguously documentable motivations of health or work and not foreseeable at the time of booking
  • Covid-19 infections (new)
  • a terrorist attack that has struck the place of stay (new)

STAY CANCELLATION GUARANTEE DUE TO LOCKDOWN - by Emma Villas (Included in the price) The final price of the reservation includes also the special coverage, guaranteed by Emma Villas, in the event that you are forced to cancel your stay in the 30 days prior to the scheduled check-in date, due to the occurrence of at least one of the following Covid-19 epidemic containment measures officially imposed by the competent authorities:
  • national lockdown in Italy;
  • local lockdown in Italy regarding the area in which the booked villa is located ("red" area or impossible to reach due to official restrictions on free circulation);
  • national lockdown in your country of residence;
  • Italian local lockdown in the Client's Municipality or area of residence..

HEALTH ASSISTANCE INSURANCE POLICY - by EuropAssistance (Optional) +1,5% of the rental price Not only cancellation policies, but also protection during your stay. You can choose to purchase this policy in the event you should, for the duration of your stay, want coverage for:
  • Healthcare with Operations Centre 24/7;
  • Vehicle Assistance to and from the place of stay and for the entire duration of your holiday; (zona "rossa" o impossibile da raggiungere a causa di restrizioni ufficiali alla libera circolazione);
  • Healthcare for family members left at home;
  • Reimbursement of medical expenses;
  • Repeat Trip Guarantee that reimburses the unused portion without deductible in the case of medical return home or early return home.

COVID-19 EXTRA POLICY - by EuropAssistance (Optional) 40€ each reservation To protect against any risks caused by the Covid-19 emergency, you can purchase the Covid-19 Extra Policy which protects you in the event that you or one of your travel companions are forced to extend your stay or are unable to complete it. In the event of consequences related to the pandemic that occur during your stay, if you sign up to this policy, you can request the following services:
  • Return home;
  • Advance for expenses for basic necessities;
  • Guarantee for extra medical expenses;
  • Extended stay guarantee;
  • Hospitalisation allowance;
  • Travel fee reimbursement.

ZER0DEP COVER - by EuropAssistance (Mandatory) 49€ each reservation The new "Zer0Dep" guarantee protects you and allows you to have a tranquil holiday. Zer0Dep stands for "Zero deposit"; it is an insurance coverage developed in partnership with EuropAssistance which replaces the security deposit and which is therefore mandatory. The benefits of this guarantee are: you do not pay the security deposit on arrival: neither in cash nor by immobilising a substantial amount on your credit card limit;
  • you are protected in the case of eventual damage to the property caused accidentally during your stay (up to the maximum limit of 1500 euro);
  • you avoid any dispute on the responsibility of the damage and its quantification during check-out;

  • online check-in (entering the required details that you did not enter when booking);
  • payment of tourist tax (where due) and eventual flat-rate payments requested (eg electricity, heating, extra cleaning for animals, etc.);
  • the purchase of additional services, hospitality (extra cleaning, in-house chef, first grocery shopping, etc.) and experiences (food and wine tours, guided tours, etc.)
